OUR HISTORY

Built in 1348, Ye Olde Yew Tree Inn is the oldest pub in Kent and a true testament to centuries of history. With over 650 years of stories, this historic inn has seen it all. Imagine the tales the walls could share: Queen Anne and the Archbishop of Canterbury are said to have stayed here, and the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin once evaded capture by hiding out within these walls.

During the Civil War, the building even served as a hospital, treating wounded soldiers. And with its storied past, it’s no surprise that two ghosts are said to make their home here—though they prefer to stay in the background.

The interior of Ye Olde Yew Tree Inn is a marvel, featuring exposed beams and a large inglenook fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for winter evenings. In the summer, the spacious beer garden provides an idyllic setting for a leisurely afternoon, whether you’re enjoying a refreshing drink or a delicious meal.

Peaceful and charming, Ye Olde Yew Tree Inn at Westbere is a must-visit destination for both tourists and locals.
